Riad Watier

A stone's throw from the heart of town

Riad Watier is located in one of the winding backstreets of the old Medina

3 nights from £485 per person

The riad has been completely renovated following Moroccan traditions, with skilled and creative craftsman who have used traditional methods that brings unique charm to this residence. In accordance with Moroccan architecture the riad has been laid out on four levels that take you up to the two terraces with wonderful sea views.

The name of the riad pays homage to Watier, a Water and Forest inspector, who saved Essaouira from being swamped by sand by organizing the considerable task of fixing the dunes that surround the town. Thanks to Watier, Essaouira and its bay have been preserved.

One the ground floor which is traditionally reserved for communal life, there is a large dining room and lounge with a fireplace, the garden, a library and the kitchen. On the above floors the rooms are laid out around the passageways of the inside courtyard. These passageways also lead to the hammam, the massage room, the garden, the fountain and of course the terraces.

Riad Watier has seven suites and three master suites. Each of the spacious suites has a lounge and bedroom with en-suite facilities. They are well equipped with a desk, large cupboards, dressing table etc and all are traditionally furnished and decorated. The three master suites have two lounges and two bedrooms plus a mezzanine. Master suites ‘Pere Jego’ and ‘Lakhdar’ also have their own fireplaces and are sixty two square meters in size.

This is the perfect guesthouse for people seeking peace and quiet, yet just a moment away from the delightful restaurants, cafes and markets Essaouira has to offer. A leisurely breakfast on the rooftop terrace, enjoying the spectacular ocean view, is a fabulous way to start your day before taking a stroll down the long sandy beach, or around the old ramparts of the old Portuguese fortress. The charming owner, Jean-Gabriel and his friendly team will ensure you have a wonderful, relaxing stay.
