Dramatic Mountain Scenery
Medieval walled towns
A fascinating land that will delight and amaze our guests with its spectacular scenery, pristine beaches and wonderfully elegant old walled towns. The upmarket hotels that we have chosen will rival any other European resort and the warmth and welcoming nature of the Montenegro people will endear you to this magical country.
The coast is extraordinary with crystal clear bays surrounded by looming mountains. Beaches adjacent to historic and ancient walled towns and new marinas where the super-rich moor their super yachts. The sheer beauty of Kotor and Budvar will surprise even the most experienced Discerning guest.
The Bay of Kotor, Porto Montenegro and Budva
Described as the Mediterranean’s only fjord, it is no wonder that this is an advertising agencies dream location. When we visited, Land Rover/Jaguar were entrenched in Sveti Stefan and were planning to stay for a couple of months to film the launch of one of their upmarket vehicles. The walled town of Kotor is a delight and surprisingly still very good value for money. We’ve chosen the boutique hotels Astoria and the Vardar as excellent bases to explore the town and surrounding countryside. Often called mini Dubrovnik, Kotor is still a working town with cobbled squares, traditional local shops and local produce market. Perhaps the time to visit is now before it becomes too ‘touristy’ and commercial. Lonely Planet have, as perhaps a premonition of what is to come, named Kotor the number one city in the world to visit in 2016.
The old naval marina has been completely redeveloped into a modern upmarket marina village. Boutique designer shops and chic restaurants and bars are a stone’s throw from our choice of accommodation, the Regent hotel. All our guests have complimentary access to the amazing Lido which has been voted as the best pool in Europe by Conde Nast magazine.
Budva is the area where beaches are sandy and the restaurants and bars are buzzing. Its beautiful old walled town is an oasis of calm whilst on its doorstep the beachside bars and restaurants become busier as the season progresses. The best time to visit is definitely May, June and September so as to avoid the tourists in high season.
From charming small waterfront hotels, to the five star luxury of the Sveti Stefan Resort, part of the prestigious Aman group of stunning hotels, Discerning Collection have a varied selection of places to stay, all renowned for their excellent, and friendly service, most of which boast splendid restaurants, offering the finest Montenegrin cuisine and local wines.
