Although Discerning Collection already feature a portfolio of hotels in Venice and Sardinia, we have decided to showcase Sicily as its very own destination. We appreciate that this beautiful island is indeed part of Italy, but as we have a much wider selection of stunning boutique hotels here, we believe it merited to have its very own section on our website.
With its temperate climate, mouth-watering cuisine, friendly locals, gorgeous landscapes and a fascinating mix of archaeological and cultural sites – this is Sicily – an island truly offering something for everyone. Sicily’s rich and turbulent past provides testament today through its eclectic mix of people, varied cuisine, Greek and Norman sites and architecture. The largest island in the Mediterranean, Sicily offers the discerning visitor stunning beaches, mountains, volcanoes, islands and breath-taking landscapes.
Western Sicily still exudes a Moorish feel and atmosphere, and is without a doubt the quieter and less commercial part of the island – the ‘wild west’ boats medieval hilltop towns such as Erice, and unspoilt stretches of coastline, such as the beautiful Zingaro Nature Reserve. Cuisine in the West, although still Italian in nature, shows much of the Moorish and Arabic influences Over in the East, the food is more Mediterranean in style, and has a track record of tourism far longer than in the West – with sophisticated towns such as Taormina and Ortigia, plus of course, the majestic Mount Etna.
Whether you are looking for culture, to enjoy some of Italy’s finest food and wine or simply relax and unwind, this magical island really has it all.
